World Tour Finals 2014 Groups Announced

Hey guys, the groups for the World Tour Finals were announced earlier today ahead of the tournament starting on Sunday 9th of Novemember. Fed's landed in Group B with Andy Murray, Kei Nishirkori and his recent Bercy conqueror Milos Raonic. You can see the full groups below.

Group A Group B
Novak Djokovic Roger Federer
Stan Wawrinka Kei Nishikori
Tomas Berdych Andy Murray
Marin Cilic Milos Raonic

Roger is in action on the first days play, taking to the court in the evening slot against Milos Raonic. A very quick rematch from their Paris encounter and like I said after the defeat I expect normal service to resume in this one. Court conditions will probably play a part but hopefully they're somewhat quicker than Paris, if they are that will definitely aid Roger's chances against all comers. Similar conditions to Basel or Shanghai would be ideal where the bounce isn't overly high and the ball goes through the court off offensive shots.

Pre tournament favourite has to be Djokovic who played some very stellar tennis in Paris and is on a 27 match winning streak on indoor courts. Hugely impressive and he's also bidding for his 3rd title in a row. Over the last 2 seasons he's been the best indoor player by a long way and based on his level in Paris that looks set to continue.

As for Fed's chances I'm not going in with any sort of expectations; Fed has a great record in London which speaks for itself so he's definitely in with a shot. I have a feeling Wawrinka might turn his fortunes around here too and be the surprise qualifier from Group A.

What do you guys think? Who's Roger's biggest threat in the group stages?

Huge fan of Roger Federer. I watch all his matches from Grand Slam level right down to ATP 250. When I'm not watching or writing about tennis I play regularly myself and have a keen interest in tactics, equipment and technicalties of the sport.

    1. Technically second but seen as though I had insider knowledge I have been disqualified.

Just updated the leaderboard actually, you’re in 2nd. The battle for year end #1 is hotting up!

      1. Sorry Eldrin, I agree with Alex. You came in second, not first πŸ™‚

Otherwise we all (who came 2nd on earlier posts) will demand Jon for a recount πŸ™‚

    1. Or, as Juan Martin would say, “When we left you?” πŸ™‚ We were just going through a doping down cycle.

  1. Group stages, I’d say Murray is still the threat. I know we can say Roger has worked him out, but reality doesn’t work like that. Murray is always in with a chance if federer is sub par, which I’d say makes him the top threat, whereas nishikori and raonic would have to play perfect matches to pull off the win.

    1. Will be interesting to see Murray vs Fed actually. Fed got a good record vs him in London.

I think Nishikori can be a danger, he seems to play well in bigger tournaments.

    2. I don’t really believe Roger has worked Murray out- I mean he should’ve won that match in Oz in three sets and then in Cincy Andy allowed him back into the match. I think it’s more 50/50 this time around since he’s won a few titles, and seems to be getting back into a rhythm. Should he play more aggressive than what we’ve seen the past year, definitely think he has a shot of getting the better of Rog. Only a question if all the tennis he’s played though the past few weeks catches upto him…

  2. Usually Roger has knack of stopping Novak’s roll…Hope he does that again here…. Another Win against Murray would be Nice….Kei could be tricky customer, Hope Rog is strong enough to handle….

2012 Final was so close, Roger get his chance this time on trophy…

  3. Does anybody know what group is going to play when in the semifinals or is it gonna be a crossover between groups. I have ticket to both semifinals and would like to know which one Roger could end up in…

  4. Doubt that Raonic will repeat even though I still feel he’s improved since Wimbledon. Kei not that convincing in Paris IMO and I sense he’s still somewhat troubled with the back. Murray has looked better, but still not where he was at before. Feds has experience and success at WTF in his favour so I’m seeing him through to the SF/F.
Never know with Stan; he actually did well last year and if memory serves, was close to taking Nadal out in the SF. Depending on where his mind is at, he could well trouble Djokovic, but he’s not shown that spark of late, so big question mark there. Can’t see either Cilic, and certainly not Berdych being any sort of threat to Djokovic.
Here’s hoping Feds gets a good rest this week and is feeling fit and fresh at start of tournament. Allez Roger!

    1. Stan played well in London yeah, just couldn’t quite it get done when he needed to. Maybe he can turn his form around here, big chance to prove himself really.

  5. All I know is that Fed really really wants this title, far more than Paris, has always taken it very seriously, seen it as a 5th slam! Hoping Raonic and Kei are nervous altho wld love Kei ( if fit) can take down Muzza!
Stan cld spring a surprise as he always plays better against the very top guys.
My four to come thru are
    Fed/ Kei

  6. I think this is the best group Federer could ask for. Sure, Nishikori might be stubborn opposition, Murray might catch fire and Raonic might bring on his service bombs again, but it is hard to see an in form Federer losing to Nishikori and Raonic. He might drop a set against either of these guys due to some patchy poor play, but not more. As for Murray, I still have doubts that he would have fully recovered from his recent global tennis adventure. So I kind of see him shine brightly for a set where ever a good Federer might drop it, but really running out of steam in the other two.

As for Djokovic, if he plays a solid defensive game, he can outlast all three of the big hitters in his group. I see Cilic disintegrating, Berdych might pull off a surprise set here and there but nothing too impactful. Wawrinka for me is a complete dark horse for me πŸ˜›

  7. It’s the World Tour Finals, the matches are supposed to be challenging.

As you say, I’m interested to see how the surface is this year.

Also interested to see if Cilic’s arm/shoulder is actually good enough for him to play.

Murray has got to be knackered. Same may go for Kei, though he did pretty well last week. Raonic may be due for a letdown after the big push to make the finals in the first place.

Djokovic looking very good indeed; Stan is past due for a turnaround, though of course that doesn’t guarantee anything; Berdych seemed to have halted his slide last week, will be interesting to see if he can sustain it.

And Fed? Ah, Fed. We all know that at his best he can beat any of them. Here’s hoping his best is what shows up. As he’s said himself, he’s got a minimum of 3 matches and a maximum of 5; it’s not as draining as some other formats they run into over the course of the year, though the overall average standard of the competition should be higher.

    Should be fun!

  8. Looks like it’s going to be a tough one for Federer. Murray’s play over the last few weeks will only have helped him grow in confidence so I imagine that he’ll be dangerous. Nishikori is always hard to predict, he’s had a great year but I wouldn’t be surprised if he had a letdown. Federer-Raonic is usually a tough one (as we saw last week) but I think that the crowd in London are going to play a part in helping Roger get through the group. Plus, Roger won’t want to lose to Raonic for a second time so soon after Paris. It would also be nice to see Stan pick up his form here before the Davis Cup Final. I’d love to see an all-Swiss final, or one that doesn’t involve Djokovic πŸ˜›

  9. I’d say Roger definitely got the tougher group. I can’t see Djoko threatened by any of his opponents (which means final good bye to any lingering YE #1 hopes for the Maestro), whereas Federer often has problems with Murray as well as with Nishikori. He should defeat Raonic, at least if he has the margins on his side this time.

      1. Virtually impossible to see him not making the final, I’d say. Seems he’s got a pretty good draw. And is Berdych actually in form?

    1. The groups look pretty evenly balanced to me! Djok does have the only other 2 competing slam winners this year in his half (in other words, Fed avoids all 3 slam winners). Fair enough the Berdman, Djok always has for breakfast, (has to be the biggest bottler on the big occasion the game has ever seen).

Also, if you add the seed numbers together in the groups, they equal the same:
1+3+6+8 2+4+5+7 both = 18, a lower total for either group would surely indicate tougher higher seedings.

      1. [in other words, Fed avoids all 3 slam winners]

That’s a pretty interesting observation. Not to mention, Stan and Cilic are current Slam winners.

Another way of looking at it: Federer might have to beat two Slam winners to win it all.

Got tickets for the Raonic match today πŸ˜€
    Allez! Chumm jetze!
Ironically the last time I saw him live was against Raonic at Halle over two years ago πŸ™‚

      1. Yep from good ol’ Sussex by the sea!
I’m so excited I’m pretty sure I’ve been unbearable these last few days ha

  11. I am organising a trip for myself and my father to the WTF and gambled by buying good seats for the Wednesday, which he’ll not be playing on (doh!)

So I have just screwed my bank balance by gambling again and have bought tickets for the Tuesday night! If I get just Federer or just Murray that night I don’t mind, if I get Murray-Federer then I’m laughing. If I get Raonic – Nishikori I’m crying.

I saw Federer play live just the once, it was at the O2 when he thrashed Nadal – I’ll not forget that in a hurry…

I think Fed will get through the group, might not be as winner but his experience should tell.

    1. I am going Tuesday!!! Really hoping for Fed/Muzza! Decided not to go Sunday as don’t really want to spend Β£128 to see Raonic! Wld be too nervous for Fed so staying on my sofa for that one!!

      1. I have a fear they will put Federer-Murray on Tuesday afternoon to ensure they get a good crowd for it. I will actually still be in London on Thursday afternoon and could squeeze in an extra match if they played then. Though I’d possibly have to rob a bank to fund it.

      2. My bet is one or the other, or both, on the afternoons. Just going by previous experience, but we’ll see. Now to see if that gift card still works …

      1. Whoa yeah, have a great fun guys!

And you could take over Jonathan’s duty for a change, hah? Far too much PeRFect blogging this season for the poor old guy. Anyway, look forward to hearing the stories later πŸ™‚

    2. I think Tuesday night is surely a Federer Murray ticket match so you should be in luck. Tennis ticketing is like a lottery though πŸ˜†

And yeah we should have a few fan reports, can do a compilation of them. Susie’s view from the Royal Box etc πŸ˜›

      1. Hi Jonathan,

I have finished my draft post and will send it to you as soon as possible.
Currently I am having office work and jet legs LOL. I don’t know how you do it man? Working and blogging. Respect.

It’s good that many people from this blog are going to watch Federer play. It is one of the things in life we as a Federer fan must do.

    1. ehem ehem… Didn’t we say no more predictions sweet Katyani?? lol
None of yours has seen light and I really really really want this one for Roger πŸ˜‰

      1. Well…… you can take me out of the predictions, but you can’t take the predictions out of me πŸ™‚

And don’t worry sweet Alex, the things I want for Roger come from a pure heart, so eventually The Mighty Man Upstairs has to make them come true πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

      1. Don’t jinx my hero dude πŸ™‚

Ps: Jon, did you see the pic of Roger eating an icecream?? Seriously, the dude is soooooo funny. You should practise Roger, not eat icecream πŸ™‚

      2. Well, Roger playing tennis is like a kid enjoying ice cream. He is simply doing what he does best.

        Get over it! πŸ™‚

      3. Mathematics question: What is the amount of prize money and atp points earned by Roger this year according to Katyani’s predictions? πŸ˜‰

    1. Nah Pat, Stan couldn’t even do anything at Basel, let alone in Paris. I hope he comes far (gets his act together before DC), but I don’t think so. Although an all Swiss final would be amazing with Roger as winner ofcourse πŸ™‚

  12. I fancy Roger’s chances here. I say he wins all matches and wins the WTF. I hope everyone in Djokovic’s group catches a now or never fire πŸ˜‰
I hope my predictions remain as is. I c Fed is excited about his team members. I’m kinda glad we didnt get Berdych and Stan. I don’t care much about Cilic.

      1. True. It’s a tough group. Roger is 13-13 vs Nishikori and Murray, and was recently knocked out by Raonic. If I were you, I’d be cautiously optimistic.

  13. i agree, Jonathan. The court surface will play a huge part in who goes through. Hoping it plays fast with a low bounce. Anyone in Fed’s group could give him trouble. So unpredictable. The only for sure seems to be Djokovic at this point.
Fingers crossed everyone going to the event gets the chance to see the GOAT.

    1. Yep,amidst the hysteria, this is huge. If the court plays like Paris, I worry for Fed. The organisers these days seem to want Nadull/Novak the whole time. Very very dull! Although I am wary of Kermode who is clearly a huge Muzza fan…..

      1. I read up a bit on court surface. Apparently Paris Bercy is wood underneath whereas Basel and London are concrete, other than that, it is apparently exactly the same (same balls used also). I always ‘feel’ that London plays faster – maybe the surface ‘wears’ faster when it’s concrete underneath? In the end, Feds has got to bring his best to the table which he knows only to well. Hope you see a great match on Tuesday Susie – I’m very jealous!

      2. Let’e hope that the WTF organisers have not done the silly thing by slowing down the speed, which could be reflected very negatively.
Slamdunk, that could make all the difference, as the flexural rigidities of concrete and wood differ by a factor of about 2.5, which is diffused by the surface. If they leave the court conditions the same as the previous years, that will be great – we know that Roger has done well here in the past!
        Allez Roger!

      3. Yeah same surface in Basel, Paris and London and same balls. But they’re clearly changed somewhat as Basel was definitely faster than Paris. You can definitely tweak composition and texture to make it play how you want. Humidity will be a factor too I think.

Paris used to be different up until 2 years ago they used Gerflor instead of Greenset GrandPrix.

  14. My Predictions πŸ™‚

    Group A
Djokovic vs Cilic – Djokovic wins 6-4 6-4
Wawrinka vs Berdych – Wawrinka wins 6-3 7-6
Djokovic vs Berdych – Berdych wins 7-6 7-5
    Cilic vs Wawrinka – Wawrinka wins 3-6 6-4 6-4
    Berdych vs Cilic – Berdych wins 6-7 6-2 6-4
Djokovic vs Wawrinka – Wawrinka wins 7-5 6-4

    Group B
Federer vs Raonic – Federer wins 7-6 6-4
    Murray vs Nishikori – Murray wins 4-6 7-6 7-6
Raonic vs Murray – Raonic wins 7-6 7-6
Federer vs Nishikori – Federer wins 6-3 6-3
    Nishikori vs Raonic – Raonic wins 6-4 4-6 7-6
Federer vs Murray – Federer wins 6-2 6-4

Federer vs Berdych – Federer wins 7-5 7-5
    Wawrinka vs Raonic – Wawrinka wins 6-3 6-7 6-4

Federer vs Wawrinka – Federer wins 6-4 6-4

So in summary – both the US Open finalists do not win a single match, Djokovics fails to qualify for the semis, Raonic is a surprise semifinalist and Federer is the undefeated 7 time champion! πŸ˜€

    1. Hey Conal, what are your predictions about a toiletbreak for Raonic?? Ten minutes?? Less?? More??
MTO for Nole?? I say atleast one in each of his matches, in the SF two and in the final against Roger…. he will go all out with three mto’s πŸ™‚ Ofcourse while his mto happens his parents and Boris applaude him and say way to go champ πŸ™‚

      1. Nah…. Roger is too much of an adult. Last mto of him was Wimby 2012. Imagine that !!!
He has taking toiletbreaks…. long ones to be honest…. so he has to be careful he doesn’t misuse them as the others have. I mean come on Raonic, a 10 min toiletbreak???

    2. Hahahahh I like this scenario, Conal. Anything can happen!

Hope Fed in a God mood, Stan remembers how well he played last year, debutants get overwhelmed by the occasion and Novak forgets how to play tennis. Muzza? Still being upset about Jonathan’s tweet, not getting Brits’ support and would repeats the performance against Fed two years ago πŸ˜‰

    3. Most in depth prediction ever.

Let’s make it interesting πŸ˜€ I’lll give you $10 AUD for every correct score you get right of those. Although I can only pay you via PayPal or in Bitcoin if you do get any right.

      1. No I was being serious, should make it more interesting and I’m sure people will be keen to see how you do πŸ˜‰

$10 AUD per correct score, no changes allowed from those scores specified above.

I am confident you won’t get any right πŸ˜†

      2. Haha, I’d rather earn a free shirt from that site where you were promoting here two months ago πŸ˜€

      3. I bet you would πŸ˜†

Ok, for every 2 scores you get right that gets you one free t-shirt from Color13.

Let’s see how many you get right πŸ˜›

      4. $10 if I just get the semifinalists right (the players, not the scores) πŸ˜€ Maybe that’s going too far!

    4. Djok not making semis? Like that will happen. Djok is an animal at this tournament, you have to literally kill him to beat him. 1 could possibly defeat him in groups at his absolute peak, (which is very unlikely) but 2 defeats? I actually saw Warwrinka play match of his life (prior to his Aussie heroics) against Djok last year at o2 and still lose. He is the man to beat. If a betting man, I would wager he’ll win all 5. Hope Fed can get him in final though, as Fed at his best surely can.

    5. OOOOPS!! Don’t allow Djoker to win against Cilic. If your predictions are correct, Fed is going to lose the year end no. 1 spot for 10 points only!

(Undefeated champion gets 1500 points and a RR match win gives 200. According to your predictions, Fed gets 1500 and Djoker gets 200, so a 1300 lead for Fed, whereas difference now is -1310.)

    6. Excellent predictions though, very much possible except Djoker matches. Looks realistic if Wawrinka and Djokovic are swapped.

BTW There’s only one route for Fed to year end # 1 spot. He has to win every match and Novak has to lose all of them.

      1. Wrong! If Conal ‘s predictions turn out to be correct (too bad they won’t…), then Fed just has to win one DC match to earn YE #1 glory. In fact, Fed can even make if Djoko wins two matches and Fed remains undefeated the rest of the year (ironically though, the Swiss then need to loose at least one of the other DC matches in the tie)

    1. Hopefully the same red from Shanghai. Red suits him at the World Tour Finals, he smashed everyone back in 2010 with red and black, and was also pretty dominant in 2007 when he wore the same combo.

      1. Yeah, I’m hoping for red again – looks great in it and I always feel it’s a ‘lucky’ colour generally for him. Or purple as Susie says – much prefer the richer colours; hate the pastels!

      1. Yeah, especially since its not a polo. Polos should be mandatory for all slams! And apparently, he doesn’t have a second outfit.

  15. Well, historically Federer has never lead Murray in H2H. And Nishikori has been playing really well against Federer. And Federer has lost that strong Mental edge over Raonic after their last match. I feel that somehow Roger is a bit exhausted after the good run he had this Year. Winning 3 tight matches is very difficult, I feel his chances of reaching Semis are less. However ,I hope I Jinx his results with my statement and he wins the title. If he wins , it will show how strong and relaxed he has become in this year.

    1. I don’t think he has last the mental edge over Raonic at all. He lost to Boredo at USO but schooled him at Wimbledon this year. Tennis don’t work like that, losing is part of the sport. If Raonic wins on Sunday it won’t be because he has the mental edge.

  16. Wow time flies, can’t believe how fast the season has come and gone and now it’s all down to this. I must say, this year feels a little different because there’s some unfamiliar faces in the mix. I think most fans will believe that Roger’s group is the harder one but having the other three wouldn’t have been a walk in the park either so doesn’t make a huge difference. Really curious as to what the surface will play like, last year was just unbelievably slow- there’s no Rafa this year so maybe that will have deterred the organisers as they aint gonna get a Djokodal match.

Hoping Roger can finally take the lead in his and Murray’s H2H, although I think this match will be far more trickier than Cincy. Would be pretty great if Fed and Novak make the final. Not sure who would win that one but it’s definitely been the rivalry of the season and deserves to be the last match played. Looking forward to the next week, may the best man win!

    1. “Would be pretty great if Fed and Novak make the final. Not sure who would win that one but it’s definitely been the rivalry of the season and deserves to be the last match played.”

Very true, Alysha. Great comment πŸ™‚

  17. I am hoping that Federer is fresh for this one. I like Federer’s chances when he is facing relatively with this draw. He normally plays well in these conditions. Well, there is nothing like easy or tough draw in WTF, we are talking about world’s top 10 players. That is why I respect Federer’s 6 WTF titles. Should be fun. Can’t wait now.

    1. Yeah it’s another impressive record of his. But we all know the WTF should be played on clay, the fact it’s on indoor hard courts is disgraceful. Regards, Aunt Toni.

    1. Sue, you are not alone and my eyes are turning green worryingly! I suggest that those who are going should put down the ‘peRFect-tennis’ bloger on their placards so that I could see you on telly.
News just in: Roger has won the this season’s Sportmanship and Fans Faviourite Awards for the record year! See who can beat them – no one! πŸ™‚

      1. I hadn’t noticed that yet Gang – brilliant – proves once again that he is the most loved, has the largest fan base, and is THE most respected by his peers. Another unbroken record – Yeah! πŸ™‚

    2. Yeah it’s very popular it seems. Should be big crowds.

I’ve been 3 times but haven’t been since 2011, not sure I’d go again actually to the o2 (unless free if you’re reading Barclays) as I’ve seen all the big names. Only Raonic, Stan and Nishikori who I haven’t seen play before and no real urge to tbh.

      1. Y’know something? I have a Barclays account, get money from Barclays ATMs sometimes, and all year long you get competitions on the back of the transaction slips to win tickets for a Premiership footie match (or something. I never pay attention). Yet *never* do they do any offers, comps etc. for the WTF πŸ™

      2. I got a free tin of balls 3 years ago for using contactless payment system they had just launched. That’s the only perk I’ve ever seen, too busy misselling other products and ripping people off to run any other promotions.

Down with the zombie banks, buy gold and bitcoin instead!

  18. During round-robin play, each group’s members will collide one time to decide the two semifinalists in that group. Three-time World Tour Finals champion Djokovic owns a lifetime 41-5 record vs. the members of his group, while Federer owns a 19-14 edge over the members of his group.

    Hmmm. Not good stats.

  19. I’ve had tickets to 2 sessions for last 3 years and still not landed a Fed match despite 50/50 chance. It’s like needing 1 head in a coin toss, with 3 attempts at it, and seeing 3 tails come up, grrrrrrr.

I landed Murray on Sunday, and 1 match from Djok’s group on Friday. I keep seeing Djok, Berd, and Wawrinks over again!

Does anybody know why they start tournament with group B, seems strange to call 2 groups A and B, then start with B?

Anyone know for sure if the groups will definitely play BABABA over first 6 days, or will they mix it up and have players playing on consecutive days. Assuming the they stick to BABABA, and that was only the case last year due to Paris ending day before O2 started, and wanting to give the finalists lonfger to recover.

Anybody going Fed v Raonic on Sunday?

    1. Ah, that sucks andyb – can you squeeze into seeing him at one of the practice sessions? Logically, you would imagine they would stick to BABA, but who knows? They know surely that Federer is the biggest draw so you’ve got to think that he’s going to be in most evening sessions. I went a couple of years ago and bought tickets for consecutive days to be sure of seeing him. Very expensive for me as I don’t live near London and have no friends now who live there either, so a bit prohibitive.

      1. Fed played 2 afternoons and 1 evening last year. Can’t decide whether the BBC asked for it, or whether the organisers wanted to sell more daytime tickets.

And doesn’t Fed practise on the main court before the matches start?

      2. Haha I guess that’s the only way to be sure, to buy 4 sessions in a row! That’s a lot of tennis though! I went to a double session last year and it was a bit much (might be the bright lights or something) but I had a terrible headache during evening session, had to go out to nearest shop for Β£5 pack of nurofen!

The prices in the venue are just craziness.

      3. You’re right John, it was a lot of tennis, but so long as I saw the great man, it was well worth it…even though it was baked beans on toast for the next month. πŸ™‚

      4. Fed usually practices at Queen’s Club. I think he may have 1 or 2 hits on those courts in the 02 and on the more open court right next to the arena from time to time but bulk of his hits are indoors at Queens.

      5. I know either last year or the year before when I went to the afternoon session Rog got presented with the Fans’ Favourite/Edberg awards after the singles. I think it was a Wednesday.

And, damn, guess who picked the wrong day to go and see the poppies at the Tower of London yesterday? Roger’s just posted a pic of himself by Tower Bridge.

      6. Okay, I thought I’d leave this on here as the logical place to look for it in case anyone wants it in the futre.

From what I’ve picked up from comments made today, it seems that it’s actually the two winners from the first day who play the next evening match, and the two losers the afternoon match. So where that leaves us for the third round-robin match, I don’t know.

Does that seem to make sense based on previous years? Last year Roger played Djokovic in the evening, lost that one, played Gasquet in the afternoon, won that, and played Delpo in the afternoon. Djokovic was unbeaten in his first 2 matches, so I guess that gave him priority for the last evening session, but I can’t remember the Delpo/Gasquet result.

So still not sure whether I’d get Roger/Andy or Kei/Milos if I went for the Thurs afternoon match.

      7. Fed is playing on Tuesday afternoon vs Kei. Murray has night match.

The losers play each other but I don’t think the scehdule is determined by that. It will be determined by who they are and what TV wants.

      8. Ah yes, commies obviously got the timings wrong, but it’s definitely the two winners playing each other, and ditto the two losers.

I’d been thinking I could sneak up to the O2 and see if Feds was practising on one of the outside practice courts during the afternoon match, but that won’t wash now.

And apologies about the near-double post: I thought I’d caught it in time to stop the first one, but obviously not. (Any chance of an Edit function?)

      9. If it was an out and out duplicate it wouldn’t have been allowed. But because you changed it slightly it it doesn’t recognise it as a duplicate.

A self edit comments function isn’t something I’m going to include either.

      1. I’ll definitely be checking it out. They said Rafa came second but a two-thirds majority is pretty comprehensive, and it wasn’t even just between the two of them!

      3. by the way, its obvious that every year Roger would win it, no doubt about it. even if he retired and ATP allow to count him, he would win it. I am just amazed with the wooow thingy that Rogers’ fan are spreading!! isn’t so clear who is the FAN FAV?
we are talking about Roger who has 17th majors and unbelievable/undisputed other records! I won’t be amazed if he got even 80%

  20. Ooooouch,

“The Swiss has been voted Fans’ Favourite presented by MoΓ«t & Chandon for a record 12th straight year, receiving 65 per cent of all votes cast. Rafael Nadal finished second, followed by Grigor Dimitrov, Novak Djokovic and Kei Nishikori.”

Dummy-trov 3rd place and Joker at 4th. LOL

How hard Novak has to try next time… πŸ™‚

    1. No way, Dimitrov is in ffront of Novak?! Wow. He’s the cash cow, lacking a bit in the tennis but having such an image that he’s making soo much (too much?) money from it…

      1. his fan base is increasing because of Roger, that’s all.
most of the Rogers’ fans like him, if not all, so you know the math πŸ˜‰
I do like him also πŸ™‚

  21. The 2014 WTF is about to start. I did a little statistical overview of the WTF/MasterCup history last night. Afterwards, as a fan, I felt this warm and sentiment about how great the GOAT is, or his GOATNESS. This is a tournament when a winner has to play top 8 players day in day out at the end of each season. One could run but has got no place to hide. One has to beat the top 8 players at least four blood times (ok allowed one loss) to lift the trophy! Winning this for the record of six times shows just what his GOATNESS is about! How many times does a slam winer beat top 8 players – the maximum of three times! I also understood a little bit more why Jonny Mac keeps loathing Roger’s GOATNESS – keep breaking the most of the tennis records – “he makes us feel so ordinary” πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚
    Allez for 007!

  22. Okay, I am getting excited about the WTF.
I just crashed the airport and getting the last BA flight from Boston to London. I am now on standby and thinking I should have thought this through before being so thoughtless.
Oh well…I hope I can get some tickets though **fingers crossed**. If I don’t, I will just go wait for Federer at Queens where he is practicing πŸ˜‰
Jonathan, please help with directions to Queens please πŸ™‚

  23. Hey All,
bold prediction! I am giving Murray a shot this year πŸ™‚
    who bet πŸ˜‰ ?
its just a hunch, no big deal πŸ™‚

      1. that’s if he meets him πŸ˜‰
things could play his side, who knows. he is playing Nishi first and then I guess Roger. if he could win the group! he might avoid Djoko at Semi, Roger could play Djoko and then will see how it goes πŸ™‚

Gonna be the second time I get the chance to see Federer play (first time 2013 AO), bought a first week series package on Rod Laver Area (Monday – Thursday)! Fingers crossed Federer will play day session on RLA for one of those days!!! If not, I can still watch all his practice sessions! Awesome thing – the Aussie Open provides each day during the tournament a practice schedule which tells which player is having practice sessions on each practice court! So I will definitely not miss the chance to see the GOAT!!!

    1. That’s great Conal. Such a good idea to have a practice schedule – you can’t fail!

I feel like I’m the only one who’s not going to get to see Feds over the next few months. πŸ™ I see Utch is kicking his heels at airport in Boston – I’m keeping my fingers crossed you get some tickets Utch – you’ve left it very late, but hopefully will see him practice. πŸ™‚

      1. Nope Slamdunk, you are not the only one who never saw Roger play life (you never did right?). Neither did I…….

Maybe it is fun to know who on this blog never met Roger or saw Roger play life…. looks like everyone did at some point πŸ™‚

      2. It’s me Katyani!! Had hopes for IPTL but all tickets sold out in just 20 minutes! Don’t know if Gourav got it or not…

      3. Oh I have seen him Katyani – twice. Once in 2001 at Wimbledon in his match against Sampras(!) – that’s when I fell in love with him and his beautiful game. πŸ™‚ And two years ago at WTF when I bought tickets for two days – and pretty well bankrupted myself! But it was well worth it to see him of course.

      4. Could be the only member of the blog to see Fed take down Sampras, that’s one of his key career milestones.

I was a Henman fan back then πŸ˜€

    2. Cool! AO probably my favourite tournament on the calendar. Hope you get to see Roger up close and personal- waiting at the practice courts is something I haven’t been able to do though so let’s hope you succeed! Have an awesome time!

    3. Conal,
      You’ll be there too?

I bought first week and middle weekend package for RLA (night session). Since I bought this pretty early, I think I got a pretty good seat (close to the front and/or next to the player entry).

Really hope they put all Federer match in night session πŸ™‚

  25. At what time does the night session normally end at the WTFs? I’m going on Thursday and Friday and am not sure whether or not it’ll be socially acceptable to go to a relative’s house afterwards!

    1. Well, the singles match is scheduled to start at 8 pm, so two or three sets’ duration after that, I should think. Then you need to leave plenty of time a) to get out of the O2 in the first place and b) to get onto a tube train, if you’re using the Jubilee line.

  26. Hi Rakheesh, the night time session has ended once by 11:15pm when Roger was playing and one other time by 11:30 pm too. It normally takes long because the doubles play first. Socially acceptable might mean you calling ahead and informing them of your intention to spend the night:)
@ Jonathan, I normally don’t like when you are quiet πŸ™‚ You let slip my request to hunt Roger down in London, please revert

      1. I don’t think so. I think Murray will get daytime matches. Either because the Beeb wants to show him, or because the organisers think he will sell more tickets.

Anyone remember the schedule patterns back last time Andy played? I know he had a daytime match against Novak, because I was there for that one.

  27. So, I decided that I might be able to stretch to Β£20 plus Viagogo’s obscene charges (I don’t mind paying a Β£3 admin charge under the circumstances, but nearly Β£6 + VAT on top of that for the privilege of picking up the tickets myself at the event? You must be joking!) – but only since they’d previously given me a Β£20 gift card. I find myself a nice seat, enter the code on the gift card and get a message that the code isn’t valid! Grrr. I’m afraid that at the moment I can’t afford Β£30, so unless the prices drop, which seems unlikely, I shan’t be going, even if it does turn out to be the Fed-Muzza match.
