Roger Federer’s Outfit for the French Open 2014

Hey all, for the first time ever it looks like we might have a dedicated Federer Masters Clay Masters 1000 outfit that only sees the light of day in Monte Carlo.

That could change if Roger plays Rome but that currently looks unlikely following the birth of Leo and Lenny so I thought I'd post Roger's French Open attire early. There's apparently some talk he could play Nice or Dusseldorf but I think they are far too close to the French Open so it'd be very out of character.

As can see it follows the same style as before with the colourblocked sleeves and again I'm not a huge fan. I'm not 100% sure those are the correct shorts as images are hard to come by but the most important point is that they are red like the sleeves, bandana and sweatbands.

Nike officially call it “Grey Heather w/University Red & Metallic Summit White”. Some of the montages I've seen show a blue zip up / cover up top which I have included below but there's also a Crimson Red one that's newly available too.

Fed outfits tend to look better when worn, so you can check out the photo-shopped image for an idea below but the sleeves are a show stopper for me and Nike just cost themselves another $70 πŸ˜€ . The only real plus point are the Nike trainers which look decent, not quite beating the French Open 2011 pair but they should look good against the red clay.

What do you guys think? Are Nike doing a good job this year or is a change to Primark required for the GOAT?

Huge fan of Roger Federer. I watch all his matches from Grand Slam level right down to ATP 250. When I'm not watching or writing about tennis I play regularly myself and have a keen interest in tactics, equipment and technicalties of the sport.

  1. Yes! πŸ˜€ I take my 2nd title of the year lol!
I agree. The sleeves aren’t that attractive, but everything looks good on Federer! Happy for the birth of Leo and Lenny! But I am expecting Fed just to play French Open.

What’s your take on the Madrid draw now lol

    1. Actually your third title this year, 10th overall, just updated the comment leaderboard πŸ™‚

I’ve not seen a single bit of Madrid other than some quick YouTube highlights and followed the results. I been really busy doing work things these last few weeks. Bit more productive when Federer not playing πŸ˜‰

  2. Probably should’ve been white instead of grey, but it looks good in the photo-shopped image on RF. Nike definitely not in top form this year. He pulls everything off anyway, so they probably decided to not spend much time on his attires. πŸ˜‰
But didn’t the downfall of the kits really begin with the zebra shirt last year? Maybe Mirka stopped sitting on the approval committee of the kits. πŸ˜€

  3. Yuck. Seems that clay sucks out everything from Nike designers πŸ˜› Not even getting close to that πŸ˜€ bring on some blue/greenish POLOS πŸ˜‰

  4. Somebody should give the link of this blog to Nike designer. There are a lot Roger fans here and for nike = potential buyer.
If even Roger fans says it it ugly, how can Nike expect anybody else will buy it?

And some comments here have a lot of good input too for them. πŸ™‚

  5. I like it – red sleeves and all! But then I liked the blue one he wore last as well. No taste I guess – except in tennis players πŸ™‚

  6. Not a fan of his FO gear, almost too casual since he tends to wear collared gear for GS. So long he is playing at FO, can’t ask for more. I hope for good draw and him going deep into 2nd week.

  7. Love red for the FO but the shirt looks like high school football. I also don’t like when Nike uses different shades of a colour ie different blues for shorts and headband. The shade should match….what are they thinking.

  8. Hey guys, I like the outfit. Well… everything looks good on Roger, but….. is this not an outfit “others” would wear?? I mean like Anderson or Ferrer??? This outfit of Roger reminds me of Rafa’s WTF outfit last year. Only Rafa had a blue outfit and Roger has now a red outfit. But like I said, everything looks good on Roger πŸ™‚

And…. he is already practising, so Rome?? Remember what Nastase said last year??? This year Roger is going to win Rome and I agree πŸ™‚

  9. What is wrong with Muzza?? Does he even want to play tennis?? Win please dude πŸ™‚ Discover your love for tennis again. I would almost say, take some months off and then come back… But kudos to Giraldo. Now looks like no one there to stop Rafa, but I think Ferrer or Nishikori have a great chance to beat him.
Still cannot believe that Nishikori is THIS good, he keeps winning and winning….

    1. Hi Nishikori is my pick to win his first Masters! Playing great fast aggressive tennis! Muzza? I despair! Outside of slams ( his admission) he is not motivated enough! Tough week emotionally but he has to be careful re ranking.
Fed might play Rome according to Godsick! Just needs to protect no 4, and he cld almost commute from home! Make the QF/SF? Not sure about winning it although some players may withdraw post Madrid!
Not sure about red shorts…. I am a purist and always prefer white shorts! Also red against clay?? Non!

      1. Hey Susie, yeah, Nishikori is going strong. But will he get passed Rafa??
But…. maybe Berdych will defeat Rafa?? Don’t laugh πŸ™‚ He was very happy when he beat Dimi and he knew that Rafa would be waiting.

But… if Stan and Almagro beat Rafa after losing to him more than ten times…. maybe today is Berdych’s lucky day???
What will Rafa’s confidence level be when even Berdych defeats him on clay???

On another note: Serena just gave a walkover to Kvitova. What is up with people playing and then cancelling???

      2. Katyani, I’ve put a small bet on Birdy to beat Rafa today. Sooner or later I’ve got to get lucky with this and I think Birdy just might be strong enough to think well if others can do it so can I. Wish me luck πŸ™‚

      3. Hey Rita, good luck πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Just as long as we and Birdy believe that he can beat Rafa…. he just might πŸ™‚ But… if you win… what will you do with the money??? Remember, sharing your wealth is the new black πŸ™‚

By the way Rita, just between you and me…. your photo on Roger’s site (when you leave a comment for RF4WORLD) is very cute (better then this one to be honest). You have a very great smile…. you should show it here too πŸ™‚

      4. Ai ai ai Rita, sorry, hope you did not lose too much money…… Damn you Birdy…..

      1. Hey I want him to win the whole damn thing! Playing great tennis! First Jap in top 10! Nice to hv someone new at the party!

      2. 0-17 against Rafa in a row. Man that is so not healthy. Come on Birdy just believe: “No one beats Berdych 18 times in a row” πŸ™‚ Just believe dude πŸ™‚

  10. I love Roger in red but not this one. Agreed with Sue, the outfit looks like a school kit and cheep. Can’t Nike do better like FO 2011? One of my all time favorites. But anyway what matter is that he plays FO at all. Hope the photos the below indicate he will! Soooo cute πŸ˜€

    1. Sweet but must hv been a very large lens!! Stalker!!
If all well at home I really think he will play Rome as then has a week off pre Paris! Nice etc too close as J said!

    2. Not a fan, invasion of privacy really a bit. Fair enough take as many pics and videos as you want when he’s on site playing tournaments but that is a private practice session that he brought the twins along to.

Hiding in bushes taking pictures of kids wouldn’t go down too well in my local park, not sure why any different here. Creepy.

      1. I agree. Private is private. It’s not as though Fed doesn’t give journalists and fans alike enough opportunity to photograph him and he has said he doesn’t like it when people take photos of his family without asking. They are lovely pics though I must say.

      2. Yeah, in retrospect it’s not fair, I totally agree with you Jonathan. The post came from one of the nicest blogs about Roger so I took it with smile without thinking. Sorry.

      3. No need to apologise πŸ˜€ you weren’t the one hiding in the bushes. Or were you? lol

The pics are great, twins always make me laugh but I reckon Fed will be annoyed with them getting photographed without permission. Let’s see if the Blick article disappears in a few days.

      4. Wanda, as Jonathan says, no apology necessary. It’s not you posting the pics I object to (they’ll be all over the web anyway by now and they are nice) it’s the person who took them. We’re all giving you the benefit of the doubt over that πŸ˜‰

      5. good on ya J. Totally agree with you – good reminder as I don’t think enough about those privacy issues when scanning news.

  11. Hi Jonathan

Love the shoes and the shorts not too mad about the top but always like to see him in red -will be just happy to see him on cout and hopefully going deep into the tournament

  12. LOL!!! @ Wanda, I’ll take it thanks…don’t agree with whoever took the pics, it’ll probably go viral among Fed’s rabid fans as people hit that blog but I’m sure it will satisfy the fans more than anything to know he’s indeed practicing.
Roger looks perfect in anything so don’t mind the outfit. Maybe , they would like him to look invisible on clay, hence the red, lool.
Again, nice one Wanda, paparazzi award to you.
@ Rita, I am hoping you win the bet. I’m sure you will be generous enough to sponsor me to watch any of Fed’s matches πŸ˜‰

  13. @ Rita, all hope is not lost…let’s put a small bet on Santiago Giraldo to beat Nadal tomorrow πŸ™‚

    1. Birdy let us down didn’t he Utch. No match for you, and another 2 francs down the drain for me πŸ™
As you say, all hopes on Giraldo. He’s been playing well. Worth a try πŸ™‚

      1. Isn’t Agut the guy who almost beat Nadal this year at some tournament? Or was that someone else with a similar name? I think it was the same guy who took Delpo out in the Australian open this year.

Both seem to be good players

      2. Things are not looking good right now for Giraldo to beat Nadal. Glad I haven’t placed that bet yet!

      3. Bautista-Agut has a chance as nothing to lose and hits v flat which helps him in thinner air at Madrid but Rafa looking gd!

      4. But you have to admit guys, Rafa has always luck on his side. He is so lucky. Is low on confidence, needs to win a big title asap to gain his confidence and …… gets one, just before RG. It’s like it is written in the stars that he will win Madrid to gain confidence and making him unbeatable again.

Rafa has to play first. Will win ofcourse. Then David vs Kei. This will be a long one. The winner will be (like Roger at MC) maybe too tired to win at the final.

And what if Kei goes through to the final? Is he 100% or will he withdraw??
After all that is now so easy for Rafa, if he does not win this title, something is wrong.
But personally, I hope David will win Madrid.

  14. Yes @ Guarav, but because he is from Spain…he just might let Nadal win it, so I don’t want him to beat Giraldo

  15. Ferrer looking v strong! His returning has been awesome BUT I am still taking Kei to break thru to the final of 1st Masters and hopefully take Rafa down unless Bautista-Agut does it first!! Conveyor belt of Spaniards! Like skittles! Knock one down, another pops up!!
And also feel quite strongly that Fed will play Rome! That training looked pretty intense ! Hurdles and all!!

    1. On the ATP site it says Federer returns shortly after the birth of his twin sons, so they are expecting him it seems. Love the skittles reference btw πŸ™‚

  16. That video and pictures are now out there. I’d be pissed off to come across that if I were the Fed family. I would wonder if my kids were safe to run around and just be kids.

    1. Yep! Waiting to see what happens! Can he sue ? Or just get them removed? He has done pretty well over the yrs to avoid this type of stuff !

    2. I reckon Blick may take em down, I’ve seen them delete articles before. There was one abut his neighbours being annoyed at the playground he’s had built for the kids. Looks immense, I wanna have a go on it.

      1. Hey Jonathan, I read if all goes well Rome SF Rafa vs Stan and Roger vs Novak.
So…. no matter what Rafa in the final…. against our Roger??? Yep πŸ™‚

  17. Clearly, Nike is a equal opportunity employer, now with specific focus on blind designers. This stuff really really sucks.
Ok, it’s not Berdych AO bad, but it’s bad. I’m so glad that Wimbledon has a dress code. At least they can’t mess that one up.
