Roger Federer’s Outfit for Doha and Dubai 2021

The Swiss returns in Qatar with a brand new Uniqlo ensemble.

It has now been over 12 months since Roger Federer last stepped on a tennis court for a competitive match, a hiatus that's given his clothing sponsor Uniqlo ample time to produce a winning outfit for his return.

With Federer's comeback at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open now just days away, the Japanese firm has revealed his new outfit for Doha. Federer will also wear it in Dubai should he partake in back to back tournaments. You can check it out below.

VIEW ON UNIQLO JAPAN

For Federer's return, Uniqlo has gone for a dark green outfit with some lighter green bands on the edges of the sleeves.

Like all his previous Uniqlo gear, it's been designed by Christophe Lemaire of Uniqlo U, and as well as adult sizes, Uniqlo has also unveiled a kids range.

It's part of the Dry-Ex line and is 100% polyester. The matching lighter green shorts are yet to be listed for sale, but a matching hat is also available.

My take is that it looks ok from the pics. When I first saw the shirt's main picture and nothing else, I wasn't too impressed.

However, after seeing Federer's photoshopped image and the kids' outfit, which has a child wearing it, it looks better, and I do like the green colour they have used.

I also like the colour gradient design on the neckline, but I'm not a huge fan of the henley-ish collar style.

On the child's outfit, the Uniqlo squares look a bit like the CEO got the first draft and replied with, “can we make the logo a bit bigger”. Christophe Lemaire's eyes rolled, but to keep his job, it had to be done. 🀣

On the adult's shirt, the logos are less of a problem as there's more fabric to play with but still, they are a little excessive. Anyway, how it looks on the court is always the acid test and we'll find out in around 10 days time.

What do you guys think of Federer's Doha 2021 outfit? Should red and green ever be seen? Let me know in the comments.

Huge fan of Roger Federer. I watch all his matches from Grand Slam level right down to ATP 250. When I'm not watching or writing about tennis I play regularly myself and have a keen interest in tactics, equipment and technicalties of the sport.

    1. Really nice for my opinion except for the big uniqlo logo squaring in. I like the collar a lot on Roger – elegant!

  1. Very classic and clean look from Uniqlo. My favourite is defo Miami 2019 with the mint top and white shorts; so simple but such a good-looking pairing.

    1. Miami turned into a pretty good one, winning outfits always live long in the memory. I can barely remember some of the Uniqlo ones, UPS Driver one the only one that sticks.

      1. Johnatan, what about the shoes? Is he wearing a custom ON pair? They doesn’t look like the Roger on Court, though.

  2. Still not keen on the outline and the bloody logo (nothing you can do about it, I know!) But it looks very different when Fed wears or photoshopped. Gorgeous! Cool colour. Even the logos look smaller πŸ˜†
Can’t wait to see it on him in real, being too long!

    1. Yeah on that kid’s outfit the logo takes up half the chest area. I used to not mind the trio of logos on previous outfits but on this, it seems even more prominent.

    2. I’m not sure the logos are smaller, I think we’re just getting used to them. I, too, think they are way too big and seem to sit poorly on the clothes, its almost like they’re fighting for prominence…”.don’t look at him, look at me.”

  3. Thanks for giving us a glimpse Jonathan. Looking forward to seeing him play in Doha, the best 250 tournament there is.

  4. Does anyone know if his new outfit will be for sale on the UK or EU Uniqlo websites? I’ve been desperately trying to buy his outfits as they come out with retirement looming, but we all know how difficult it can be to have access to buying Fed’s Uniqlo stuff online. I can see it’s available on the Japan site and mostly sold out, but hoping it’s still to launch on the EU/UK one for an Irishman like me who has to rely on buying Fed’s stuff online. I’d hate for Ebay to be the only option in buying the new shirt for crazy money. πŸ™

  5. Hey everyone,
Love the colour and as always hope it’s cool enough. Those big red squares are not necessary, are they?

  6. Like the colour combination, if not the henley collar (as ever). But 100% polyester? Good grief. Time Japanese textile technology was moving away from that πŸ™

  7. Where is the RF logo on the main outfit ?
The outfit is great but what will be the colour composition of the shoes ?

    1. Hat only for now.

His endorsement deal actually has the option of selling advertising space on the shirt.

Shoes – no idea, will it be On, or will it be Nike?

      1. So actually the RF logo is not coming back on the shirt? Just on the hat? Thats disappointing.

  8. Its time for Uniqlo to get over itself. Their logos are WAY too big. We all know they stole Roger away from Nike and we all know he signed with them, so ease up. I think this outfit looks a bit better than previous designs. Their first few times out, the fabrics and manufacture looked terrible; sleazy material and poorly made. This does look better. Everyone is so happy that Roger got his trademark ‘RF’ back.

    1. Uniqlo quality is high, I have plenty of items, better than Nike. Very good price:performance.

And they didn’t steal him from Nike, they picked up him after Nike ditched him πŸ™‚

  9. Love the green detailing at the neck and sleeves. I think they could have added the RF logo at the back of the shirt, no? At the top by the neckline or on a lower corner.

The hat!! Finally the RF hat is part of the kit.

  10. Really not impressed with Fed’s garb since he joined Uniqlo, all his outfits just look so naff (yet for Nishikori they’re actually a lot more stylish). Shame he left Nike when he did since his final 18 months produced some brilliant designs, not to mention results!

    1. Yes, but have you seen what Nike’s been producing since he left? Pretty yuck, by and large. So I’m not sure if he’d have been any better off if he’d stayed.

      1. I think that’s just for the NextGen. Senior pros like him seem to have bespoke kits.

  11. Still no sign of this being sold on the EU or UK Uniqlo sites. Anyone know where I can buy this outfit without paying crazy money on Ebay? Tried emailing Uniqlo customer support but not getting any reply. Super frustrating cause i’m eager to buy this just can’t get the chance to. πŸ™

  12. Ridiculous stuff. I bought every outfit since Federer signed with Uniqlo, knowing he’s about to retire. Now they release a kit without the shorts. Uniqlo is the weirdest company on the planet.

    1. I don’t think its on Prime unfortunately. Tennis TV have the broadcast rights for it but a month subscription is around €14.

      1. Thanks Marc. I suppose I’ll get Tennis tv for a month. Most of the 500 and all 1000 events are broadcast here. Can’t miss Roger’s debut!
