From time to time a new Federer video comes out that deserves it’s very own post on my blog and that’s the case here as one of the best Federer Tribute Videos of all time from 1893stuttgartschwabe was uploaded yesterday.
It features some great clips from the 2012 season including many of the key points in the Wimbledon Semi final against Djokovic and the final against Murray. You tend to forget just how immense some of the shots are that Roger comes up with on the big points like the stop volley at set point in the final; just genius or pure brilliance I guess you could say.
I really like how the video features snippets of commentary that run in the background, with some real gems from Robbie Koenig, Mark Petchey and even Andrew Castle of all people! They work really well alongside the music and the speed of the footage. I think this video is remarkably well put together and runs seamlessly for 10 minutes without any silly interchanges or stop/starting which means you don’t lose interest half way through.
I also love the slow-mo clips of Roger hitting his top spin backhand, it’s one of the most attractive shots in the game and you are able to see just how much talent and technique is needed to execute that type of shot perfectly and not spray the ball all over the shop.
It’s a truly epic video and I’d like to say thanks to Rick aka 1893stuttgartschwabe for putting together such an awesome channel for us fans to enjoy.

All I can say about the video is just EPIC ! It is a summary of the Roger’s story in 2012 and record breaking grand slam winning. Sweet seventeen.

yeah, you have to love 1893stuttgartschwabe’s videos, they’re crazy! I honestly prefer seeing slow-mos of his forhand, rather than the backhand though :3 But it’s crazy how the WTFs give the best footage, that low lighting is fantastic!!
Yeah some great footage comes from the WTF, some great clips from 2010 and last years.
It’s just a pleasure to watch Roger play. It has such a soothing effect on me, takes me to a calm place. It’s just beautiful, the grace and fluidity of his game makes such a physical sport such a joy to watch. I hope he continues playing for many many years to come. Allez les suisse !!

Fabulous video. I particularly enjoy watching Roger and Novak play – it’s like Clash of the Titans, superhuman! I was sorry Roger lost in the ATP end of year finals this year, but wow, what a match. Highlight of the year has to be the great man winning Wimbledon though. I could barely breathe during that damn match. With all respect to Djokovic, Nadal and even Murray now, I don’t know how anyone can look at Roger’s achievements, over almost a decade and see him still playing like that and not say he is the greatest of all time.

Yeah their match at Wimbledon as great this year. I think every pundit thought Djokovic was going to win, even McEnroe said Federer at the start of the tournament then changed his mind in true bandwagoner style. Roger came out and played great tennis and showed everyone how you play tennis on grass.
ATP final was disappointing but I didn’t even think he’d make the final so he went above my expectations in the end.
Fed is in the undisputed GOAT. It’s tough to compare eras and generations but nobody has achieved as much in the game.
Such a great video- very well done. I always forget just how good those two Wimbledon matches were to watch. And also, it is so easy to forget just how well Roger played during the whole season. It was in no doubt one of his best seasons in years.
Like you Jonathan, I never tire of seeing Roger hit that backhand. It has to be one of the most underrated shots in the sport. The things he can do with it when he’s playing well… you just wouldn’t see anyone else doing them. His crosscourt backhand pass is one of my favourite shots to watch.
Here’s hoping 2013 will bring just as much joy to watch as 2012 did.
