The Sydney International used to host he world's best men's and women's players in the week prior to the Australian Open but it was last played in 2019 and has been replaced with the ATP Cup from 2020 held in Brisbane, Perth and Sydney.
The tournament has a history of homegrown success with Lleyton Hewitt winning four straight titles from 2001 to 2005. Fellow Australian Bernard Tomic won his first ATP World Tour title at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis World in 2013 and more recently Alex De Minaur took down the title at the 2018/19 event.
With 250 ranking points on offer to kick off the season in style, the prize money on offer can also kick start a players season financially. For 2019 the total prize money on offer at the Sydney International was $527,880
The winner will walked away with $90,990 USD with the runner up receiving $49,205 which softened the blow of losing the final.
