BMW Open By American Express, Munich Prize Money 2022

The BMW Open is the first of four German tournaments on the ATP Tour and takes place in Munich on the red clay.

Primarily known as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, it was first held in 1900 but known as the BMW Open since the sponsor took the name in 1990. The ATP first staged the event at Munich’s Iphitos Tennis Club in 1974.

With the backing of Bayerische Motoren Werke, the champion usually receives a brand new car as part of their winning package, and the prize money on offer more than covers the fuel (or charging if they're feeling green) bills.

For 2022, American Express has also entered the event as a lead sponsor, giving it the title the BMW Open by American Express and the total prize money on offer is €534,555, which is a 27.44% increase compared to the total offered in 2021.

The champion in Munich will take home €81,310, a significant 275.5% increase compared to the figure Nikoloz Basilashvili received last year. The runner-up sees a similar increase of 196.4% vs 2021 and will receive €47,430.

Those increases are mirrored across the entirety of the main and qualifying draw. There isn't a single round that doesn't see a double-digit percentage increase compared to twelve months ago.

You can see a full breakdown of the 2022 BMW Open prize money in the table below. A percentage change is also provided to compare with last season.
