The BMW Open by FWU is the first of four German tournaments on the ATP Tour and takes places in Munich on the red clay.
Primarily known as the Bavarian International Tennis Championships, it was first held in 1900 but has been known as the BWM Open since the sponsor took the name in 1990. The event was first staged at Munich’s Iphitos Tennis Club in 1974.
With the backing of Bayerische Motoren Werke, the champion usually receives a car as part of their winning package, but the prize money on offer is as equally impressive.
For 2020 the total BMW Open prize money is €542,695 which is a 3.5% rise on 2019.
