Update: The BNP Paribas Open has been postponed for 2020 due to the COVID-19 outbreak across the globe. Here's the prize money the players would have been playing for in the Coachella Valley and presumably will be up for grabs if the event is rearranged.
Often regarded by tennis fans as the fifth Grand Slam, the BNP Paribas Open certainly has the prize money to match with the total prize money pool for 2020 at a record $17,085,360 which is a 2.14% rise compared to 2019.
The BNP Paribas Open offers the same prize money for men and women across singles and doubles competitions and has done since 2012, that means each tour plays for a share of $8,542,680.
Along with 1000 ranking points and a prestigious 🏆 to add the cabinet, the champion in Indian Wells 2020 will leave with a cheque for $1,361,360 which is a 0.54% rise compared to last year.
Runners up will quickly get over the disappointment of losing the final thanks to a $693,670 payday, a 1.12% increase vs 2019.
Prize money at Indian Wells has increased by 81.95% since 2012 and the focus on recent years has been increases for qualifiers and first-round losers. This year the jumps aren't quite as dramatic but first-round losers still receive $18,155 which is a 10.53% rise.
You can see a full breakdown of both the ATP and WTA 2020 Indian Wells prize money in the table below. A percentage change is also provided to compare with last season.
