Hamburg European Open Prize Money 2020

The Hamburg European Open traditionally takes place the week after Wimbledon and sees players make a swift return to the red European clay at this ATP 500 tournament.

However, due to the global outbreak of COVID-19, this year’s tournament dates have shifted to 21-27 September.

The event takes place at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center, which features a retractable roof stadium and with 500 points on offer attracts a number of top players.

Naturally, with just 2,300 fans allowed on-site and a looming economic crisis, for 2020 the prize money on offer at the Hamburg European Open has been revised down to €1,062,520 which is a decrease of 38.2% compared to last year.

The winner will take home €79,330 which is a drop of -77.6% year on year. However, it's not all bad news, with early-round and qualifying losers seeing a boost compared to 12 months ago.

Round 1 losers receive a cheque for €13,640 which is an increase of 4.4%. Similarly, first-round losers in qualifying will take home €3,450 which is up 37.2% on 2019.

The reallocation of prize money has been mandated by the ATP to ensure that players hardest hit financially by the hiatus of the tour can start to earn again.

You can see a full breakdown of the 2020 Hamburg European Open prize money in the table below for both singles and doubles. A percentage change is also provided to compare with last season.
