Federer To Kick off 2018 Season at Hopman Cup
Schedule and Match Times for Benderer
Hey all, I hope those of you who celebrate it are having a Merry Christmas and are looking forward to what the 2018 tennis season might bring 🙂 . Like last year Roger will be starting his season at the Hopman Cup with Belinda Bencic as his partner.
The schedule is already out so I thought I'd post it here and Benderer will be playing all their matches in the evening slot. Their first match is on December 30th against Japan's Yuichi Sugita and Naomi Osaka, the next on January 2nd against Khachanov and Pavlyuchenkova and the final group match on January 4th against Sock and Vandeweghe. Should they top the group then the final will be played on Saturday January 6th with a 4pm start.
The formula is the exact same as last year: one women's and one men's best of three sets singles matches, plus a FAST4 mixed doubles. The team who tops their respective group qualifies for the final.

First?
Hope all had great Xmas celebrations and Happy New year wishes to All.

That name Benderer sounds really really odd ?

Feliz navidad!
There you are, Jonathan!
Did you go anywhere sunny on holiday or did you buy anything nice from the bitcoins’ profit?
I’m not involved in Bitcoin unfortunately 🙁
But I have been on holiday, escaped the UK for some sun. Now ready for Hopman Cup.
Good for you avoided a white Christmas, hah.
Wanda, Jonathan has been chasing birds, mainly turkeys.
Not thinking the Swiss will do that well. Bencic hasn’t played much of late. US Germany final? But then, who cares. The year end break seems so short this time around.
Belinda came back end of the season and won some challengers, so I guess she should be fresh and in form. Already in Perth too, I’m sure she will want to impress Fed 😉
End of season break seems longer to me. No exhos or IPTL for a start.
Bird-watching? Nah, Jonathan is not that English 😆
Belinda has won 3 titles in a row and 4 since her comeback I read so that’s not bad form. It’s an interesting field didn’t Sugita win the sexed up next gen year end event? Sock is going well, Coco has been doing ok under Pat Cash and Goffin on fire of late …it’s going to be fun with Zverev & Kokkinakis there too. Fed showed winning it is not necessary to do well in Melbourne . I can’t wait and hope everyone enjoyed the break & celebrations as we look to share the NY with tennis & Fed showcasing the delights of Perth for the WA Tourist authority!
Yeah Belinda has come back in form already, back in top 100 and won a couple of WTA 125K series in a row just now.
Chung won the NextGen tournament. But Sugita is pretty good on quick surfaces I think, should be an exciting match up…
Brain is gone holiday mode brain. Think Sugita went really well USO 2 years ago then had injuries but was excellent, and will try hard v Fed as they all do. Apologies for the mix up!
Should be fun anyway.
They will for sure have fun, win or not. Maybe this even will make them win? Nice photo on top – bodes well for a happy new year, with fun and friendship.
I watched Sugita in Vancouver in the summer. Should be a fun match.
I hope everyone had a nice Xmas and looking forward to a great tennis 2018.
Hope Roger repeats his 2017 performance next year. I’ll be in Melbourne during the first week of Australian Open. Any idea when Roger plays? Is it safe to assume being the second seed, he plays Tuesday and Thursday night session and get the tickets?
Tbh I have no idea how they usually do it. Check the draws from previous years and see if that’s the case?
Can’t wait for Roger’s 1st match on 30th. I just want Roger to retain his AO title, praying to tennis gods for a good draw. Djoker will be hoping to win AO 2018 to emulate Roger’s cinderella return – yikes….
Yes going to be an interesting start of the year. Lot of comebacks happening…
Now not so sure how many guys will actually come back…??
I will be flying in tomorrow night to Perth. Who else is coming to Hopman Cup? I am bringing my Federer cap but the red was sold out unfortunately. (I might have to just use my red Federer visor)
Ah nice enjoy!
Not sure if anyone else who reads here is going….
Wish I was coming, too! Have a great time, Donna 🙂
Thanks Wanda and Jonathan! Just went to the first night session with Federer and Bencic playing Sugita and Osaka. The evening was just magical. One of the fun aspects was to see so many Federer fans on the train and at the event. Everyone was in a great mood and lots of people were wearing RF hats, shirts and facepaint. It’s very special to be here and Perth is a wonderful venue.
Cool, I could tell from TV the crowd were really enjoying it, was a good atmosphere.
How fun, Donna! Are you there for all his matches?
Yes, we have tickets for all the 6 evening matches until Friday night. We wanted to make sure we had all the evenings covered as we didn’t know which nights it would be. We watched Saturday, will be there for his matches on Tuesday and Thursday as well.
