Announcing the 2014 Overall First Comment Winner

Happy New Year! Today is the 1st of January so that means the 2014 first comment leaderboard has now closed. It's been a hotly contested year but I'm pleased to announce that Alex is the winner with an impressive 15 titles! There is of course a prize to the winner and Alex wins 3 t-shirts of her choice from Color13.com.

Color13 Prizes

If you are reading this Alex, I will email you a link to Color13 where you can pick the t-shirts you want along with the colour and the size. Once you have chosen them they will then be shipped to you in the next few days.

And for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about; I keep a record of every first comment left on any blog post posted on peRFect Tennis. They are totted up in a spreadsheet throughout the year to keep a running total on the comment leaderboard page. I've included the entire leaderboard below and there were 54 different winners across 134 posts in 2014. Strength in depth 😉

3 commenters made it into double figures and surely Eldrin must be wondering what could have been if he wasn't making sandwiches so often to miss my posts 😆

Finally I'd like to thank everyone who read and/or commented here in 2014. It was a great year of tennis and blogging combined and hopefully 2015 brings more of the same. BEL18VE

There will be a leaderboard for 2015 too and yes, this post is the first one to count towards it!

Jonathan

Huge fan of Roger Federer. I watch all his matches from Grand Slam level right down to ATP 250. When I'm not watching or tweeting about tennis I play regularly myself and use this blog to share my thoughts on Federer and tennis in general.

    1. No consolation prize? haha oh well HAHA i wouldve loved the shirts coz its very difficult to get something “Federer” here in the Philippines 😀

      1. I thought about it mate but just sticking with overall winner. If I give 2nd, then 3rd maybe needs a prize too, then top 10 😆

Not to worry though, more chances to win prizes coming up as well as the 2015 comment leaderboard.

  1. HUHUHUHU T_T It was a close fight T_T 2nd in this post just like the year end ranking.. No prize for the 2nd place?? HAHA pretty please??? 😀

  2. 18th place oh well. Happy new year everyone and let’s hope Roger bags 2 grand slams. And thanks for the great post Johnathan.

  3. Now that I have started my ranking defense well :-p I want to thank you Jonathan for this amazing blog once more 🙂 it is for me THE place to come to, be it to celebrate Roger and Tennis or to digest a somehow difficult loss. You guys never failed to make things better 🙂 🙂
So happy new year everyone! I wish for an even more impressive 2015 for the PeRFect-tennis community, for our peRFect Roger and I BEL18VE!!!

    1. You are in your prime 😆

Thanks! Yeah hope 2015 is a decent year for Fed, hard to win a slam I think but if his back holds up then he should factor in most events he enters.

  4. Well 4th isn’t bad, concidering i didnt’t even get in the Top 10 last year!:)

Any expectations this year? What titles do you really want to see Roger win this year?

    1. Brisbane, Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlos, Madrid, Rome, Roland Garros, Halle, Wimbledon, Cinci, Montreal, US Open, Shanghai, Basel, Paris, WTF.

That isn’t asking too much is it?

    2. I honestly have no expectations. Just going to enjoy one match at a time. Hopefully watch a few matches live this year so hope he does well in the tournaments I get to see (if any)!

  5. Jonathan- How are you a lowly 31st?

Alex, congratulations. Wish you’d give us a breather though.

Happy 2015 guys. Just a few more days and we’re back in action. Can.Not.Wait!!

  6. It’s really kind of cool that there are so many different winners. I thought I only had 3, so was pleasantly surprised to discover it was 4! Thanks again Jonathan – couldn’t have so many winners without tons of posts. 134 posts? That averages out to a little MORE than one every 3rd day! Holy smokes!

Alex and Eldrin – boy those young guns are just on fire!

  7. Congrats to Alex. Nice looking t-shirts. I still say I deserve an 8 hr relay. These posts happen in the middle of the night for me. Boo-hoo.

I feel very fortunate to have Jonathan and all the fans here. Important in the winning moments but more important in the losing ones.

I see Delpo isn`t ready to return to tennis yet. It must be very frustrating for him. I guess he shouldn`t have swung so hard at the USO 09. And Cilic is out too. The USO semis must have done him in.

Any pics of Roger`s gear anyone. He must be on his way to Brisbane now.

    1. Thought it was yellow and green?

Anyway, a Happy New Year to all. Here’s to plenty of successes to cheer in 2015. And no health problems.

  8. Happy New year to Jonathan and everybody who read or comment on this site.
Wow 2nd to last. I am in the exclusive Andy Roddick club as a one slam wonder! !! Lol. I will have to try harder and stop making sandwiches like Eldrin.
Can’t wait for the new season to begin. Brace yourself its going to be emotional !!!!!

  9. Hey guys. Happy new year. May all your honest wishes come true. I am…. just going to honor the name you all gave me….. so PLEASE bare with me 🙂
I won’t repeat ALL my predictions for Roger, because you all know them already I think. Just wanted to say in short that this year Roger will RULE. I am bel18ving, bel19ving and bel20ving !! Also that Roger will win either Rome or MC or….. both. And by God…. even if it kills us….. we will win Wimby 2015 and God please WTF 2015 🙂

But I just wanted to say that this year Rafa will not win any slam. Yes, not even his precious RG. Novak will not win RG either. Roger or someone else will.
Muzza will go from worse to more worse. Basically downhill. Delpo (miss him so much) will do a Rafa 2013 and win it all or will do a Muzza 2014 and win nothing.
Stan will rule with Roger. Novak will do oke. Watch out for his…….you know.

My dark horse for this year is NISHIKORI. He might even win a slam.

And eventhough I know Rafa will not win RG… if he does win it for the 10th time….. even with the use of the d-word…. I will take my hat off for him, because that will be (undeserved) special.

Hopefully my predictions (about Roger) will come true 🙂

      1. Hahahaha you make me smile every time sweet Katyani 🙂 🙂 🙂
But you have to admit that none of your predictions came true so far :-p
I’ll let it slip this time 🙂 🙂 and pray that you’re right 😉 😉

      2. Happy New Year Katyani 🙂

Think you have it all covered there. Nadal won’t win RG but if he does it will be deserved. Del Potro will either win tournaments or he won’t 😆

One tournament at a time. Brisbane first and its quite a strong field. They’re all queuing up to try get a W vs the GOAT when he’s ring rusty.

      3. Hey sweet Alex, you are so sweet and funny 🙂 But….. don’t underestimate me…. my predictions can come true you know 🙂 #alwayshopeful #alwaysbel18ve 🙂

      4. Hey Jon. You can’t see me, but this is me taking my hat off for all the things you did with the blog in 2014. Hopefully 2015 will be the same 🙂 Right now I just want to see Delpo play. But by God… if he somehow stops Roger from winning a slam or makes him too tired…. I will print his photo, put it up the wall and throw darts at him 🙂 You hear me Delpo.
And I do mean it, I reallly don’t think Rafa will win RG. If he does win it… kudos… even with the use of you know what. But… if age and health catches up with every player (including “injuryfree” Roger), why would Rafe be the exception?? He is still human, no matter what we all think 🙂

And you are right Jon, even the 250 tours have strong fields. So I am taking it one match at the time, and still “know” that Roger will win it all.
I am just worried that Roger will go overboard. He is already talking about chasing nr 1….

    1. Hey Katyani…one wish has come true already – Muzza just beat Nadal 6-2, 6-0 at Abu Dhabi (OK his first match after 6 months off so not really reading anything into it) – and only an exhibition, but you never know: I’m hoping it could be the start of a year of defeats for the cheater! I also like Del Potro but it’s not looking too good for him ATM as he’s already pulled out of Brisbane (as has Cilic) and they’re both looking doubtful for AO.

Happy New Year to you, 🙂

      1. Hey Slamdunk and Jon, same to you. You are right Jon. No need to read much into this Rafa loss. Did you watch the match?? I did. That bagel is nonsense. Rafa should have won many games. But he was rusty. But my God….. even a rusty Rafa is a BEAST. He really gave it his all. He was no walkover or something. Muzza had to dig deep.
Speaking about Muzza…. although I do think he wil go downhill from here, first I have to take my hat off for him. Take a deep bow Andy. He was VERY LUCKY that Feliciano Lopez was not in the mood to win the match and did literally everything to lose. So when Andy had to play Rafa, I thought he was going down with bagels. But my God…. this was one of his best matches. Usually he plays sooooo boring. But this fight was great. And to be honest someone in his team made him look at Roger’s matches in the offseason, because he played almost like Roger. Andy came to the net a lot, played really aggressive (even I could see that), was shortening points and the thing I liked the most is that he took risks, especially at the breakpoints.
Now…. all he needs is someone from his team to tell him to run less. This was only 2 sets and he was huffing and puffing in the 2nd set. Totally breathless. If this was a slam he would have won the 3rd set, but he would be dead tired at his next match.

Andy did not trash Rafa (no matter the scoreline). However Novak definitely trashed Stan. I don’t think Muzza will be able to stop this Novak. But don’t worry…. our Roger will 🙂

  10. Hi Jonathan and Fed/PT fans,

    Happy New Baaa Year!
Lets have a great season, shall we! Can’t wait to see Fed but before that will be Brisbane draw or AO kit post from you, Jonathan 😉 By the way, is it true Fed and Dimi will team up for doubles?

And hey congrats Alex, well-earned 1st prize!

  11. Dreamy photos of Roger in Brisbane. Looks like Dimi is playing doubles with Kokkanakis. Raonic and Tomic are playing doubles….two ends of the spectrum there.
Feds got Dimi in his side. Raonic and Nishikori the other.
